St. Patty’s Day
By Dan Murphy on Mar 18, 2008 in Holidays
Half way around the world March 17th is still one of the most important days of the year. Luckily, Australians do their fair share of partying for St. Patrick. There were a few big scale celebrations going on throughout Perth but our group decided to stay in Fremantle and go to Rosie O’Grady’s - the big Irish pub that we have been to a few times on other nights as well. Rosie’s has a bar with Guinness and Kilkenny on tap and plenty of Irish paraphanalia hanging on the walls. There is a giant leprechaun that looks like it belongs on the front end of a ship in one of the rooms. Last night the bar was packed with people wearing their green. Earlier in the day there was live Irish music and traditional dances on the stage. At night there was another live band but they played more popular songs for dancing for most of the night.
Unfortunately the bars here all close by midnight or 1 a.m. so last call was before most people had even started their celebrating in the states ( it would’ve been about 11 a.m.). So we decided to hang out on the beach for an hour or so afterwards, someone brought a guitar and a few goon bags (boxes of wine) so we ended up having a very successful St. Paddy’s Day… although this morning it doesn’t seem quite as successful.
